Sisters Day Exploring Cape May, NJ

Yesterday morning I put on a pot of coffee as I was getting ready for my Sisters Day date with the third Haviland sister, Shannen. The following is a conversation between Steve & I, at an hour too early to remember (jk like 9 am.)

Steve: What happened? You're not going to get coffee with Shannen anymore?Me: I am! I'm just having breakfast first.Steve: But didn't you just put on a pot of coffee?Me: Yes. For with my breakfast. And while I'm getting ready.Steve (with great judgement & incredulity): So. You're having coffee before you go get coffee.Me: Duh. Don't you know who you married???It's the tail end of Shannen's spring break (college freshman! when did that happen?!) and I have been busy with work & life and we couldn't get it together and the weather hates everyone so FINALLY we found a day (yesterday)  for a short trip to one of our very favorite places, Cape May, NJ. It's about a 45-min drive from Ocean City, which makes it perfectly far enough to feel like a special occasion to visit. Here is the only photo of us together because we were too busy eating.

But First, Coffee (Again)

We grabbed lattes at one of the best coffee spots in Cape May- Tommy's Folly. Located inside the absolutely gorgeous Congress Hall resort , Tommy's Folly is a coffee shop-boutique hybrid that serves my favorite ever: La Colombe, so it's basically my dreamland. Their walk-up counter offers plenty of goodies & delicious drinks (chocolate covered marshmallow, plz) & we sipped our lattes while checking out the grounds of the hotel because it is absolutely gorgeous (should I say absolutely gorgeous one more time, or??) They also have more noteworthy places to eat & experience like the Blue Pig Tavern (so good) & The Brown Room (v swanky) & The Boiler Room  (pizza!) if you're looking for more than coffee. Steve and I are still dreaming of a stay-cation at this place, but until then I will just continue to eat and drink at their various establishments while I daydream.

Lunch Break

I'd heard good things about Big Wave Burrito, and it's one of Shannen's favorites so off we went. What better way to celebrate your Irish heritage than Mexican food on St. Patrick's Day? Do you want a sub-par food pic I snapped halfway through eating because it was good & I forgot? K.After lunch we drove around admiring all the candy-colored houses & discussing our future beach getaways. Then we headed to West End Garage and a nearby antique shop. I'm always on the hunt for items to add to our apartment, but didn't have much luck yesterday.Since it's not a sisters day without perpetual shopping & eating, we moved on to dessert.

Chocolate & Ice Cream

Shannen chose Peace Pie for her post-meal treat & it didn't disappoint (so I'm told.) WAIT FOR IT:We made one last stop into Louisa's Chocolate Bar before we collapsed into a sugar coma & drove home. Our adventure ended with Beauty & The Beast at the Harbor Square Theatre.Best Day.Opportunities like this make me constantly thankful to live in such a beautiful area & be near my family. I love my sisters dearly and it has been so fun to have our individual relationships grow & change as we get older. Hopefully spring or summer will allow the four of us to spend more quality time together.Wait, who am I kidding? That would end in a fight, probably. Now back to work & reality.Happy Saturday!
