24 Hours in NYC

Hey hey! Currently typing this out from the air conditioned comfort of the doctor's office and it feels like a swamp outside. Not to wish the summer away, but I'm so looking forward to the first feeling of fall. Today I thought I'd recap our quick trip to NYC last week. Here are a few highlights from our 24 hours in NYC. This trip was our way to celebrate my birthday together, since I'll be out of town with friends for my actual day. One of my favorite comedians, John Crist, was performing at a comedy club in the city and I thought it would be perfect. I love experiences as gifts vs physical gifts, so an overnight adventure is right up my alley. Steve worked Sunday morning, so we hopped in the car that afternoon and drove straight to the city. The show was so good-- from John's openers to his set, and we had the best time.

Where We Stayed

I love love love and prefer boutique hotels to chains so I always check the Tablet app (or website!) before we travel to a major city. I found our room for under $130 and it was perfect! We stayed at the Arlo in Soho and it was super, super cute. The room was minimalist & cozy (read: tiny!) but just what we needed. The hotel also offers a rooftop bar, bar & restauraunt, lobby area, outdoor courtyard, and a cute little bodega and coffee counter with Intelligentsia coffee. Their dirty chai was amaaazing.

Where We Ate

The night of the show we basically only had time to grab snacks, but brunch the next morning was so good! We walked up the street to The Butcher's Daughter, it's adorable plant-based cafe. I would love to decorate our future home in a similar bright, boho style.Steve ordered the Triple Berry French toast and a side of the white bean & fennel sausage (so good!) and I went with the Butcher's Pancakes (amazing) and the adzuki bacon (not my fave). If you are following a plant-based diet definitely check them out! Their whole menu looks great & their drinks sound incredible. Keeping this place in mind for the next time we visit.Other vegan-friendly places in the city I enjoy: Brooklyn Bagel (best vegan cream cheese for variety and flavor), by Chloe, Peacefood, and Van Leeuwen.

Bookmarked for Next Time

A few places I have on my list to try next: Screamer's Pizza, Blossom, Candle 79, Jajaja Plantas Mexicana, Jack's Wife Freda

Monday Adventures

On Monday we drove through the city on our way to Long Island, and passed by Steve's literary agency. And by passed by I mean I tried to get Steve out of the car to take a picture, but he didn't want to jump out in the middle of Manhattan traffic. Cant imagine why????We drove to Steve's family's house and spent the rest of the day vegging out. The next morning we grabbed coffee and bagels, and a few Black & White cookies from a local bakery to bring to my fam. Thankfully the drive home Tuesday was without crazy traffic, praise the Lord.It was such a fun little overnight trip, and I'm so grateful for the chance to get away.I made a quick video recap over on IGTV if you want to check it out.Have a great week, friends! Lmk if you have any upcoming trips on your radar!xoKatie
