A Week with the Waldows in Ocean City

Hi, friends! Popping in today to share about our week with the Waldow clan & give you a good amount of photo spam and a video of our visit at the end. Enjoy!Steve and I hadn't seen Dan, MK & baby Peter since his baptism which you can read about here. The little squish has grown so much in a few short months & it was so great to experience more of his personality & sweet smile! Also, he and Josie are now the best of friends, so that's adorable. Steve and I spent the better part of Thursday running around in preparation like chickens with our heads cut off as people often do when company is coming.

Thursday & Friday

Their flight out of Florida was delayed (Spirit! Surprise!) so we arrived at the airport for pickup just after midnight. I felt terrible because it was still a frozen wasteland here in New Jersey, and Floridians are never prepared due to the blissful sauna-like temperatures they experience year round. Thankfully the weather was perfect for rest of the week, so shout out to New Jersey for getting its ish together.Peter & Josie met for the first time and y'all IT WAS THE CUTEST. She did a mix of sitting, gentle jump-sniffing, and lying down playfully because I'm pretty sure she thought Peter was a new toy/strange puppy?? Either way, it made me want to cry it was so cute. I captured some video of Peter giggling at her and it might melt even the coldest heart of stone. We didn't get to bed until after 2am and woke up Friday feeling hung over from sleep deprivation, so Steve went on a doughnut run while I made the coffee. Shannen stopped in for a quick visit & she and Peter became fast friends because they are the two most agreeable people on planet Earth.

Friday & Saturday

Steve's parents, their dog Nellie, his brother Pat, his sister Meg & her husband Kyle all came to visit for the weekend, so it was a packed house and I loved every minute. It was also the first time we'd all been together in Ocean City since our wedding!! Three whole years!! Steve and I agreed to act like shoobies and hit the boardwalk for a trip down memory lane. The guys mostly dipped into the arcade, the surf mall, and infamous stores of their childhood, and the girls mostly rolled their eyes and kept walking. I took lots of photo and video in the name of posterity.

Monday

Steve and I were finally able to get some time away from work for our first beach trip of the season and it was my favorite day. It also began The Case of the Missing Pegs for the baby's tent and Steve and Dan did their best to improvise despite the wind. Eventually we gave up and took turns holding Peter until he fell asleep on Steve and my heart stopped with the cuteness overload. Steve asked if he should put him "into a football hold" since he fell asleep upright, and I was absolutely no help so we are going to be stellar parents someday.

Tuesday

In the morning MK & I stole a few hours for a coffee run, lunch and shopping with her sister Claire who is the sweetest.  Later, Steve and I cooked dinner for the four of us and I made cupcakes in honor of Peter's half birthday. He couldn't eat any, but seemed to enjoy staring at the confetti and trying to pull the plate closer so at least he is easy to please. That night we babysat while Dan & MK went on a date, and Peter was an angel baby who slept the entire time. Can I just say that I have never felt fear so intense as I did that night while trying to get up off my creaking bed without waking the baby???? All parents are ninjas if they can regularly avoid waking their sleeping children. At one point I sneezed and Peter's eyes flew open and I'm pretty sure neither Steve or I took another breath until he went back to dreaming. It was all very touch-and-go.

Wednesday

Departure day was sad, but we were so thankful to host the Waldows for the week. It was the first time Steve and I had guests staying for an extended amount of time, and Dan & MK were the absolute best. Peter is the cutest Godson we could ever ask for, and I am so thankful to have hit the in-law jackpot. What a blessing it is to have family members who are also dear friends. Josie definitely misses all the excitement and we are counting down the days until we can see each other again. Here's a little video compilation of our week, because let's bring back home videos ok?!
