Apartment Renovation: Living & Dining Room Updates
Last year Steve's parents purchased a place in Ocean City, and generously offered to rent it to us. We were in a particularly terrible living situation at the time & happily made the move from a horrible one-bedroom where dreams go to die, to this sweet little two bedroom with lots of light. I love updating this space bit by bit. We are planning minor renovations for the kitchen & our bedroom in the coming months, but until then here are a few photos from the living & dining room. It's amazing what a few cans of paint can do to transform a space.
Before:
The little bay window in the above photo is another part of this apartment that I absolutely adore. Now I just need to find the time & $$ to build custom window seats. When Steve & I were first dating we were long distance, so I would often visit him at his family's home in New York. I noticed the way they would gather around the kitchen table, talking long after a meal was over. It felt special & familial. From then on I wanted a dining area that would encourage people to gather & stay awhile. And then we got a puppy the size of small bear, so the gather & stay plan is going super well in that people are gathering their things & staying the hell away. The hutch in the photo above is one of my favorite birthday gifts, ever. My dad is the King of Craigslist, and gifted this to me for my 27th birthday. Until I have my coffee/juice bar in the Ultimate Katie & Steve Dream House, this will be my apartment equivalent.
After:
Sorry in advance that Josie is in EVERY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PICTURES. She is a diva queen dog model wannabeThat's it for kitchen & dining! I am still dreaming of plantation shutters, a proper rug for under the kitchen table & a bar cart or record player for these spaces, but all in time. If you have any tips or tricks you learned from your own home renos, I'd love to hear them.
