Valentine's Day Recap & Surgery Update
Valentine's Day started with breakfast in bed, ended with some of the best vegan food I've had in awhile, and was filled with quality time with Steve, so I'd say it was one of the best yet. Recapping our day, as well as an update on my surgery from the 15th in today's blog. Steve surprised me with breakfast in bed on V-Day that included all my favorites: van's gluten free blueberry waffles, la colombe coffee & field roast vegan apple sausages. It was so, so good & Josie was trying to steal it from me. Sorry these pics are grainy-- iphone & lighting probs. Someday I will have a big girl camera. My Ovarian Wedge Resection surgery that I spoke about in a previous post was scheduled for Wednesday the 15th, so after breakfast we dropped Josie at my fam's for an overnight excursion with her best-friend-cousin Lola & headed to New Brunswick.Once Steve & I arrived in NB we took advantage of a rare afternoon together. We ate lunch, visited Hidden Grounds--an awesome coffee shop with a matcha latte, atmosphere & staff that is on point, and checked into our hotel for the evening, the Hilton East Brunswick.
Hidden Grounds Coffee: Interior
I forgot to take photos of my latte, but I've rounded up a few beauties from their instagram:https://www.instagram.com/p/BQiacP9gNVO/?taken-by=hiddengroundscoffeehttps://www.instagram.com/p/BQQ6RJIgnl9/?taken-by=hiddengroundscoffeehttps://www.instagram.com/p/BPc9gDnAdJ0/?taken-by=hiddengroundscoffeeAfter we settled in at the hotel we ordered takeout from this amazing full-service vegan restaurant, Veganized. It was perfection, I highly recommend it. We ordered the caesar salad, mackin cheese, the righteous reuben & the chocolate peanut butter torte. Lots of food for a decent price & everything was delicious. Again, since I was more concerned with eating rather than taking a photo this time, you can check out their beautiful creations via instagram:https://www.instagram.com/p/BIvrbSIg_QD/?taken-by=veganizedfoods&hl=enWe fell asleep watching an old Valentine's Day episode of The Office (the one where Phyllis gets 9 million gifts and Jenna Fischer hates her life) and woke bright at early to our 6am alarm.
Day of Surgery
I was so nervous the morning of the 15th. Even though I have had multiple major surgeries in my life (open heart, spinal, pyloric stenosis, and most recently brain surgery) I still have crazy nerves every single time. I also do this very endearing thing where I am super emotional and weepy on less than a million hours of sleep, so it was an all-around great way to start the day.We were told to be at the hospital two hours prior to the 9:30 surgery, and so we arrived at 7:30 and waited around, half asleep, until we were called back around 8:30am.
Here's a gown. Tell me your name, date of birth, are you allergic to anything? Have you had had any major surgeries? What are you having done today? Why? Have you had a flu shot? Do you want a flu shot? What is your name? Sign this please. Is this your husband? Can you do a cart-wheel?
just kidding about the last one, but honestly. The questions went like this repeatedly for about an hour. They were super thorough, and everyone was very kind. The anesthesiologist kept laughing because I was responding "sounds great!" to everything. But I was so tired that, honestly, telling me I will be asleep for the next few hours does sound like the greatest thing ever.I was wheeled back for anesthesia around 10 and I think the last thing I remember is this warm, heavy blanket they placed on my shoulders and thinking, "I wonder if I can buy this on amazon prime."The surgery only took about an hour, but I didn't even start to wake up until around 2:30. I am so thankful for Steve's patience of Job, because I am sure it was not easy to wait around all that time. Once awake I was moved to a recovery room where I drifted in & out of sleep and ate ice chips like the manna from heaven that they are. Here is my one percocet-induced-ice-chip-nirvana-selfie that I managed. You're welcome.
Surgery Results:
In addition to the wedge of both ovaries, they found & removed some endometriosis.ALSO ALSO: NEITHER OF MY TUBES WERE BLOCKED.Take that, ya dumb HSG test. I was so relieved to hear all of these things and thankful for the amazing Dr. Beiter & the Gianna Center & staff of St. Peter's hospital. They are literally all angels.Today is day 4 of rest and recovery and so far I have only lost my mind to stir-craziness one time. I have eaten approximately 498 sleeves of saltines, caught up on Grey's and written my second blog of the weekend so, yay rest? The sun is out today, though, and it feels so beautiful and warm and I am praying it stays that way since it's mid-FEBRUARY. Grateful that it's not the usual Antarctica, NJ where we live. And again, thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers, I am so very grateful. What are you doing to enjoy this gorgeous weather?? Please tell me your adventures so that I may live vicariously through you. ps-- I am giving away an awesome journal from Blessed is She, over on instagram. Contest ends tonight so enter before 11pm EST!
